Reflection on ICT integration in T/L for the Month of August, 2019
On 19th August, I have integrated ICT in teaching Dzongkha for class II. The topic was on fruits “Shingdrey”) a short essay/story to develop the listening and speaking skills in children. The essay/story to be narrated was about “Types of fruits”. Till now, this topic was taught simply reading an essay/story by the teacher or made the students to read the essay/story written on a chart. However, this time, I thought of teaching this topic using the ICT so that the teaching won’t be a monotonous.
To teach the topic in an interesting way, I first recorded the whole essay/story in an audio form in my own voice keeping all the necessary requirements of telling/ narrating an essay in mind. Then, I played the audio using the speaker and a mobile phone in a class and let the children listen very carefully. Several questions were prepared for the children to answer after listening to essay.
Children were so excited to listen for essay/story because it was arranged in a unique way. All the children were asked to listened story/essay carefully. After listening to essay/story most of the children could answer the questions asked from the topics that were discussed. However, there were some challenges such as few children who were southern and typical Eastern Bhutanese could not catch up the words in the story/essay in detail because it was a Dzongkha story/essay and the audio was played just once. The other challenge was managing all those necessary materials such as quality speaker and quality audio recorder.
I could prepare a lesson and was able to manage all the required materials on time as I have planned since a week before. After the question answer session, I could realize that at least I should have played the audio for two times so that all the children could understand the story/essay very well. This was my drawback this time while integrating the ICT in the Teaching Learning purpose. I will definitely improve my way of presenting when I teach similar topics using the ICT in future. I learnt that I must not take into granted that everyone in the class has the same ability of listening skill. I learnt this because at the end of question answer session those few children wanted to listen to the story/essay ones again and they said they could not understand the story/essay well. Keeping all these in mind, I will try to present in a better way next time. The lesson was so interactive. All most all the children could express what they felt or understood about the story/essay. I was happy that I could fulfill my lesson objective.

ReplyDeleteYes, Now I got lesson. I will play twice or thrice in next time. your feedback is credited.
DeleteSure sir, you should have replayed twice or thrice to make them understand.
ReplyDeleteSure madam, I will keep in my mind when I conduct next time. Due to time constraint I could not do. Thank you for your valuable comment la.
DeleteMy pleasure sir.
DeleteYou have understood that audio has to be played again and again. Its true because our brain cannot trap all the information at once and need to listen again and again to get the correct information. But there was interaction which is the most important of learning for the students.
ReplyDeleteThere were interaction with facilitator and learners la. The things is that I could not upload my voice here la because of big file. I have compressed the file into minimum size but due to poor facilities of network I could not.
ReplyDeleteYes poor net connection deginately hinders to use ict in our teaching. However, need to find solutions and other alternatives. Anyway you effort are great. Keep going.
ReplyDeleteBy going through your post I also got remainder that we can play the audio more than once.Anyhow you had different and interesting lesson of Dzongkha.
ReplyDeleteToday you have used ICT in your own innovative way to teach your children in Dzongkha too...normally at present scenario we use ict in other subject rather than in Dzongkha. It would definately motivate your learner.
ReplyDeleteYou have used the relevant teaching learning materials. It is most accessable ict tools used frequently.
ReplyDeleteReflecting and accepting are the powerful tools in learning. Based on the drawbacks we can bring termendous change.Innovation is another tool we can have to alter our lesson. I came across these three things in your article. Keep on exploring.
ReplyDeleteI would like to acknowledged for all your valuable comments la. This is one way of interacting each other. This can be also called PLC (Professional Learning Community) la. Thank you ones more la.
ReplyDeleteIt was great to use ict in dzongkha lesson too.I didnt see dzongkha teachers using ict

ReplyDeleteWow sir
ReplyDeleteYiu did a great job...
The children must have felt good to see all the different types of fruit otherwise some of them may not have seen ig and they land wondering like wht could be that....
Very Interesting lesson using ICT skills sir. Though it is a Dzongkha lesson but the way you taught is really interesting for the children to learn. Even I feel to attain your Dzongkha class because I still remember my Dzongkha lopen hitting me with electric wires many times when my Dzongkha understanding was totally null.
ReplyDeleteIf I have been taught like you teaching today, at least I would have saved few harassment of beating from that cruel man.
Really grate teaching. Your teaching aids are really attractive and appropriate, keep going sir.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed a lot. Will try and implement your ideas in my teaching too.
