6. Video Tutorial

6. 2nd ICT Reflection on video tutorial for October 2019

On 17th October 2019, I had to take remedial class for class VI on the topic “Our Culture”. I have prepared video lesson using video tutorial. I took an advantage of using the video tutorial in my classroom teaching.

The lesson was already taught and few students have difficulty in understanding the topic. Therefore, I have integrated video tutorial. I have shown video tutorial on transportation, communication and eating habits of our country. The main objective was to let children to identify the concept of transportation, communication and eating habits. It can also tell the changes over the time, past and present scenario.

Teaching them using video tutorial and further supplementing the lesson by the teacher was found very successful. Children were so interested to lean when ICT has been integrated in the daily lesson. The children’s interest in learning helped them to learn better and effective. The remedial class on this particular lesson was a success story because four slow learners could carry out the given activities on their own without much problem.

However, there were few challenges such as the power supply was cut due to maintenance therefore, I could show them using projector in the library room. Second thing was that I had to show them the video tutorial for several times because there weren’t much interaction. I had to explain again and again on what was shown on the video tutorial. This consumed little bit of time. Another problem was with regard to voice narration. The language I have used was little high for those slow learners and that is why, children were asking me to show the video tutorial again and again.

In future, if I ever need to use video tutorial, I need to think of using the language at their level so that everyone can understand easily. The greatest impact of using ICT in the lesson was that children learnt differently with out-most interest. The interaction was seen more interactive and effective  compare to usual method of teaching.

5. 1st ICT Reflection for the month of October-2019

Lesson on  ICT Tool Audio Visual.

5. 1st ICT Reflection for the Month of October (2019)
On 3rd October during 3rd period, I taught class VI subject Social Studies on the topic Lord Buddha. Students were supposed to learn about the people who made difference in the world. The first people to be studied were about the Gautama Buddha. The information given in the Social Studies text book was very brief. The text book demands students to read the “The light of my Life” about Lord Buddha. I tried to explore the book in the School Library and I could manage to get only two copies. Therefore, I thought of taking help of ICT to fulfill the lesson objectives.

The mini speaker belongs to one of my friend and I borrowed from her. I took the book and started to record the story reading the book in my mobile phone. I made sure that the voice of narration is clear enough and slow enough so that students can understand.
I made use of a portable speaker which has the option of connecting through Bluetooth. I tried to connect my phone with the speaker through Bluetooth and it functioned well. The speaker also has an option of increasing its volume up to our desire and it was found that it’s very audible in the classroom. As plan "B" I have also taken laptop if the phone do not work.

I gave the clear instructions to the students and I also briefed about why I am using mini speaker and phone. How are they going to learn the story about the Lord Buddha? And what are they supposed to do after hearing the story about Lord Buddha.
The narration was about 20 minutes. I kept the mini speaker on the table and connected the narration from my mobile phone through Bluetooth. I made the students to listen silently.

Once the narration was over, I made them to answer all the questions about Lord Buddha in the next class individually. Although there was no book called The Light of my Life about Lord Buddha, students could answer all the questions.
The integration of ICT is found to be so useful in such kind of situation. The integration of such ICT facilities substituted the book and helps the teacher and the students learn and fulfill the lesson objectives. I have realized that a resourceful teacher can be innovative and use available ICT facilities in and around the classroom. I did not take much time to prepare the narration and neither it was expensive.
The draw backs of integrating ICT in this lesson were only that the narration was bit longer because I narrated the whole book.  Because of this ICT integration, children could learn the whole story about Lord Buddha despite of shortage of required book in the school. This idea was even appreciated by my colleagues and wanted to adapt in the classroom as well.

I am really satisfied of integrating ICT in this lesson because I could achieve my lesson objectives without any problem. Henceforth I am planning to use other tools which can help our children. I also encourage my colleagues to use ICT in their lesson and some of the friends implemented in the classroom and found so useful. I too acknowledged my colleagues for using ICT.
